As per an announcement made by the governing authorities of Changshu city in China, effective May 2023, civil servants in the locality will receive their salaries exclusively in digital RMB or digital yuan. The notice issued by the Changshu Local Financial Supervision Bureau and the Changshu Municipal Bureau of Finance clarifies that the compensation will apply to all public service personnel, public institution personnel, and state-owned unit personnel at all hierarchy levels within the city. It has been reported that a local hospital staff member has confirmed receiving digital yuan payments next month. Additionally, employees have the option of choosing digital yuan settlements via self-service terminals.
