The Ethereum core developers recently held a meeting to strategize on code modifications for the blockchain’s consensus layer for the upcoming upgrade called Cancun-Deneb. This is after successfully rolling out the Shapella upgrade that offers validator withdrawals. The planned upgrade is expected to take place later in the year and includes new changes that will bring down the cost of using Ethereum for its users. The upgrade will span across two mainnet layers i.e., the execution and consensus layers, with the former being named Cancun and the latter, Deneb. Together, they form the combined upgrade, known as Cancun-Deneb. Overall, the developments indicate forward progress on Ethereum’s journey towards optimization and enhancement.
