Worldcoin Launches Gas-Free Crypto Wallet World App with Human Verification System

According to an announcement made on May 8th, Worldcoin has launched a new gas-free crypto wallet named “World App” specifically designed for verified human users. The wallet is currently compatible with Android and iOS operating systems and runs on the Polygon (MATIC) network, functioning to allow its users to hold and transfer an array of cryptocurrencies- United States Dollar Coin (USDC), Dai (DAI), Ether (ETH), Worldcoin (WLD), and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC). The wallet’s differentiating factor is its use of a “World ID” system that can accurately distinguish human users from bots. To get started, users must first register for a World ID by providing their phone number or iris scan. The project assures that it does not store any personal user data, instead producing a zero-knowledge proof to confirm human verification without compromising any of the user information. Besides, the app allows the use of third-party gas payment abstraction for users who lack World IDs, but only World ID owners can benefit from the gas-free transaction features.

The wallet also includes Uniswap integration, allowing users to easily swap held coins. World App has partnered with a few regulated crypto exchanges like Ramp and Moonpay to enable onboarding and offboarding within the wallet for its users’ convenience. Additionally, users can opt to connect their phone numbers to send or receive crypto through phone contacts. According to Tiago Sada, a core member of the Worldcoin team, the wallet’s creation purpose is to offer an accessible and straightforward cryptocurrency solution for people new to the crypto space. Worldcoin was co-founded by Sam Altman, a familiar name who also co-founded OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT.
