Polygon Labs Proposes Upgrade to ‘zkEVM Validium’ for Polygon 2.0 Network Enhancement

Polygon Labs has presented a proposal to upgrade its flagship Polygon Proof-of-Stake (PoS) sidechain to ‘zkEVM Validium’, a Layer 2 network that is secured by Ethereum, in order to align with the future version of Polygon, known as Polygon 2.0.

The proposed upgrade aims to leverage zero-knowledge scaling technology called validium, enhancing the sidechain’s security and performance while maintaining its low fees. Polygon Labs would utilize its in-house zkEVM technology, which is distinct from the current zkEVM that was introduced in March 2023. This proposal is titled ‘Polygon 2.0’.
