The National Football League and NFL Players Association have collaborated with gaming technology studio Mythical Games to launch their first blockchain-based mobile game, NFL Rivals. The game allows players to take on the role of general manager and access arcade-style gameplay featuring their favourite NFL players. In addition, users can purchase, collect, and trade non-fungible tokens that grant them access to special events and in-game rewards, thanks to the blockchain.
To attract a broad audience, Mythical Games CEO John Linden said the company is downplaying the incorporation of NFTs and blockchain, while still offering the enhanced functionality they provide, facilitated by the transition of Mythical Chain from Ethereum to a parachain in the Polkadot ecosystem.
